Arte Público Press is thrilled to welcome Liana Lopez as its new Marketing Manager. A longtime advocate for Latino literature and cultural preservation, Liana brings extensive experience connecting authors, readers and educators through literature, media and the arts.
Liana is a well-respected voice in the Latino literary community due to her work with Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having Their Say for more than 15 years, where she served as Communications Manager and as Producer and Co-host of the organization’s weekly radio program dedicated to Latino literature and culture. She was a principal organizer of the Edward James Olmos Latino Book and Family Festival and co-founded the Librotraficante Caravan, a movement that brought together writers, educators, students and readers across the country in defense of intellectual freedom and access to diverse literature.
In addition to her work in literary advocacy, Liana is an accomplished multimedia journalist, photographer and storyteller whose work has appeared in national and local media outlets, such as The Houston Press, The San Antonio Express News, Democracy Now! and Yes! Magazine. Liana also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Houston.
Through radio, photography, journalism and community organizing, Liana has dedicated her career to connecting writers with readers and sharing literary and cultural work with broader audiences. Her deep knowledge of Latino literature, combined with her extensive experience across media, will help advance Arte Público Press’ mission of bringing Latino literature to readers across the country.
“I’ve spent much of my career helping tell stories and introducing people to great books,” said Lopez. “Joining Arte Público Press feels like coming home. I’m honored to be part of an organization that has championed Latino literature for nearly 50 years, and I can’t wait to help bring our authors and their stories to even more readers.”
We look forward to the energy, creativity and vision she will bring to her role as Marketing Manager as she leads efforts to expand the reach of Arte Público Press.
