Arte Público Press Launches Digital Edition of Texas Town Legends: A Place in History on APPDigital

Arte Público Press announces the digital publication of Texas Town Legends: A Place in History by Olga Muñoz Rodríquez on APPDigital, its open-access digital platform built on the Manifold system. The work is now freely available to readers worldwide at https://artepublicopress.manifoldapp.org/projects/texas-town-legends.

Originally published in 2019 by Florícanto Press, this work shares the stories, traditions, and histories of Texas towns, highlighting the experiences of Mexican American and Latino communities. It features the oral history of a World War II veteran reflecting on his time in war and the racism he faced at home, as well as accounts of the Uvalde school walkouts, offering insight into local activism and community memory.

The digital publication expands access to the work while offering the enhanced reading experience made possible through the Manifold platform. Readers can engage with the text through features such as highlighting, annotation and the ability to share comments with other users. These tools allow the publication to function not only as a book but also as an interactive digital resource for teaching, research and community engagement.

APPDigital is an initiative of Arte Público Press, the Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage Program and the US Latino Digital Humanities Center at the University of Houston. The platform provides free online access to scholarly and archival texts related to US Latino literature and history and supports interactive reading and classroom collaboration.
