Houston, September 6, 2018 — The Honorable Mickey Ibarra, the Honorable Leticia Van de Putte and Lionel Sosa will speak on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, from 6 – 7:30 pm at Talento Bilingüe de Houston (333 S Jensen Dr, 77003). They will read from the collection of essays, Latino Leaders Speak: Personal Stories of Struggle and Triumph (May 2017). This presentation is free and open to the public.
Originally delivered as keynote addresses at the Latino Leaders Network Luncheon Series, the personal stories included in this book are all by successful Latinos involved in a variety of occupations, from politics and sports to education and activism. They reflect on what it means to be Latino in the United States and are both a testament to perseverance and a guide to life, for readers of all backgrounds.
MICKEY IBARRA is president of the Ibarra Strategy Group, a government relations and public affairs firm in Washington, DC. He is the founder and chairman of Latino Leaders Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing leaders together.
LETICIA VAN DE PUTTE, a life-long San Antonian, served in the Texas Legislature for over two decades representing a large portion of San Antonio and Bexar County. Senator Van de Putte was named by Texas Monthly magazine as one of the “Top Ten Legislators” and is the subject of a book, Latina Legislator: Leticia Van de Putte and the Road to Leadership by Dr. Sharon Navarro. She graduated from the University of Texas College of Pharmacy in 1979 and was a Kellogg Fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
LIONEL SOSA is the author of Children of the Revolución: How the Mexican Revolution Changed America (Texas University Press), Think and Grow Rich, a Latino Choice (Random House) and The Americano Dream: How Latinos Can Achieve Success in Business and in Life (Dutton). He was named “One of the 25 Most Influential Hispanics in America” by Time magazine and was a Fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard University. He was awarded an honorary PhD in Humanities from the University of the Incarnate Word.
